Small Business Spotlight: The Mouse Factory

Are you looking for high quality cat toys, handmade in the US? Check out my interview with Denise Boudreau, owner of The Mouse Factory, a small business based in Florida.

Briefly introduce yourself and tell us the name of your business.

My name is Denise Boudreau, and the name of the business is The Mouse Factory.

What does your business offer?

We create handmade catnip and non-catnip toys. We offer specialty toys for specific areas if requested.

When did the business get started?

I have owned the business for 10 years this past March, and worked as lead seamstress for the previous owner for approximately 3 to 4 years. Before this, it was owned by the previous owner’s aunt in Pennsylvania.

How did you get into this business? Tell us your story.

I have always loved to sew, and back in Massachusetts, I worked for Joyce Tapply Bingham doing Folk Art Dolls for several years. The dolls were featured in the New York American Folk Art Museum. After moving to Florida, I searched for another sewing opportunity, and found this one.

What is your favorite thing about the business? What makes this business special?

I love sewing and being creative using my hands, which this business allows me to do. What is special is hearing how happy our customers (the cats) are with their new toys, as told by their owners.
